Hereford Inlet Lighthouse

Wildwood News - admin - December 27, 2020

Experience Wildwood’s wonderful history at Hereford Inlet Lighthouse. The lighthouse is a landmark that recently underwent a painstaking restoration. When I initially pulled up to the grounds,

Hereford Inlet Lighthouse is located at Hereford Inlet, on First and Central Avenues in North Wildwood. Hereford Light began operations on May 11, 1874. The tower is 49.5 feet tall, with light elevation rising to 57 feet above sea level. The light is visible for 13 nautical miles.

A severe storm in 1913 damaged the light’s foundation, requiring it to be moved westward about 150 feet. In 1964 the old light was replaced by an automatic light tower, but in 1986 the light was again placed in the lighthouse.Free tours of the lighthouse are offered during the summer. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this lighthouse is open for tours, which are a fun way to spend an afternoon if you’re seeking a break from the beach. Tours take visitors through the lighthouse’s many period rooms, and guests are encouraged to explore the surrounding gardens (which are immaculately manicured and, frankly, quite impressive). Tours cost $9 for adults and $3 for children under the age of 11.

Wildwood Beaches

Wildwood Beaches

Nearly five miles long and up to a quarter mile wide, Wildwood Beach features clean sands and a family friendly environment. With easy access to the famous boardwalk, this free beach is a fantastic place to spend a sunny day. For many people, there is great joy and good summer business to be found on the widest beach in New Jersey and one of the widest on any coast. For more than a hundred years the beaches have been growing wider.

The beaches keep growing and the town keeps making the most of it. The area hosts some of the largest kite and frisbee festivals in the country, and more than 20,000 to 30,000 people have attended country music concerts on the sand in the past decade.

The vast stretch of sand is less appealing to the elderly and people with wheelchairs and other mobility challenges. Another concern is occasional flooding. Because the sand stands several feet higher than the storm drains in some parts of town, temporary ponds can form in the midst of the beach.

Though an idea to shuttle people to the water line via camel was nixed by the town years ago, some people ease the trip by summoning an all-terrain beach taxi or by using a sled to drag their beach gear. Most just enjoy the extremely walkable sand and the fantastic body surfing in the water.

Jurassic Adventure Mini Golf

Wildwood News - admin - March 17, 2020

Jurassic-Adventure

A mini golf sight for those that like the game, the theme of this mini golf course is dinosaurs! A great game for kids that understand the game, they can walk around different dinosaurs and enjoy the creativity of the little area. This is a great way to spend a couple of hours when the weather cooperates.

For many visitors its a tradition that they have to stop at Jurassic Adventure Golf at least once a summer. We used to live in the area and since moving away, we always come back for family. So Jurassic golf is a must.

It’s a simple little course that’s fun. The holes aren’t incredibly challenging which I think makes it great for the kids. We don’t have any kids but there’s almost always a couple families there when we’re there. Staff is friendly. Some free parking but it’s free to part on the street there so you shouldn’t have a problem parking.

A fun, family-friendly and prehistoric mini golf course located in North Wildwood. Open 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. daily in the summer season.
