Cape May Carriage rides on Jackson Street

Exit 0 on New Jersey’s Garden State Parkway is No. 1 in many a heart.

The Victorian seaside gem that is Cape May is hard to beat. No high-rises, multilane highway or senior week noise just a quiet low-key, small town with fabulous beaches.

The city of Cape May is admired by many for its beauty and history—in 1976, the entire city was named a National Historic Landmark. This changed everything. Investors slowly started  to see real value in the historic seaside town. The architecture was unlike any shore town in New Jersey. Homes were renovated, businesses were born and B &Bs thrived.

Today Cape May is something special to behold. The town has invested huge sums to renovate the historic district shopping area. Brick walkways, gas lite lamps and a beautiful little town park add a wonderful ambiance to the town. The town lays claim to the best walks. The historic district is the best area to walk and admire the homes. The Victorian houses are beautiful and strolling along the oceanside of Cape May has a promenade. It is wonderful in the early morning, high noon or late night. Bed-and-breakfasts, guest and rental houses and resort hotels offer plenty of lodging choices, and everything is within walking distance.

All Cape May beaches require a beach tag for anyone over 12. The beaches are known for cleanliness. Poverty Beach is less crowded than the other beaches, and hotel cabanas at Cape May’s beaches are a guest favorite.

The Washington Street Mall offers shoppers and folks looking for a meal many wonderful choices. Colliers Liquor has a great wine selection. Kohl’s Ice Cream and the Fudge Kithchen are favorites. During the summer live bands play right in the nearby park.

You will want to visit Sunset Beach. People hunt for Cape May “diamonds” or quartz crystals that wash ashore. Check out the flag ceremony.

There is always something to do in Cape May. Cape May is now a four season destination. More and more visitors are coming in the off season to experience The many sights of beautiful Cape May.
